ill Chamberlin, CFA, brings more than twenty-five years of equity portfolio management, research, and client-relationship experience to Route 20 Private Wealth. His career spans mutual funds, separately managed accounts, and direct work with institutional and high-net-worth clients, with deep expertise in growth equity strategies across the small-, SMID-, and mid-cap segments of the market.
Bill spent the first half of his career at Columbia Management and Columbia Threadneedle in Portland, Oregon, building one of the most respected growth-equity track records in the Pacific Northwest. From 1999 to 2006, he served as Vice President and Analyst on the Columbia Contrarian Core Fund (SMGIX) — then a $3.0 billion strategy that has since grown to approximately $35 billion in assets under management. From 2006 through 2013, he was promoted to Vice President and Portfolio Manager on the firm’s Small-Cap (CMSCX), SMID, and Mid-Cap Growth (CLSPX) franchises, which together represented roughly $6.5 billion in combined AUM. From 2013 to 2018, he served as Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager on the Columbia Mid-Cap Growth Fund (CLSPX) and associated separate accounts, with $3.0 billion under management.
From 2019 to 2022, Bill was a Canadian Investment Counsellor at Fisher Investments International in Camas, Washington, where he managed high-net-worth client portfolios ranging from $0.5 million to $35 million. In his first year on the desk he onboarded a record 82 new clients and approximately $65 million in assets under management — a testament to his ability to communicate complex investment strategies across the full spectrum of client sophistication. The Canadian licensing he obtained for the role is rarely held by U.S. residents.
Most recently, from 2022 through 2024, Bill served as Senior Research Analyst at Voya Investment Management in Lake Oswego, Oregon, supporting the Voya Small Cap Growth Fund (TCMSX). During his tenure the fund delivered top-quartile performance, with Bill contributing models, investment ideas, and cross-sector due diligence to the strategy.
Bill earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Pacific Lutheran University in 1994, and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation on September 14, 2007. He has also passed the Series 6 and Series 63 examinations and previously held the Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC) designation, awarded in October 1996. A long-standing and active member of the Portland Society of Financial Analysts, Bill served as the lead judge for the Society’s College Research Challenge for five consecutive years and continues to engage in ongoing professional education through the organization.
